Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
